Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a healthcare approach focused on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those affecting the spine. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques to improve mobility, relieve pain, and allow the body to heal itself naturally without medications or surgery.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes, chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for treating neuromusculoskeletal complaints. While no healthcare treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects, the risks associated with chiropractic care are very small. Dr. Higgins performs a thorough examination before recommending any treatment to ensure it’s appropriate for your specific condition.

What education and training do chiropractors have?

Chiropractors must complete a rigorous academic program similar to medical school, with a focus on musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Higgins holds a Doctorate of Chiropractic, a Master’s in Sports Performance, and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, representing years of specialized education and training.

How is Black Diamond Chiropractic different from other chiropractic offices?

Unlike traditional chiropractic offices that may see patients for only 5-10 minutes, Dr. Higgins spends a full 30 minutes with each patient. We provide multi-dimensional care, using multiple techniques in a single session rather than just adjustments. Our approach focuses on finding and fixing the root cause of issues, not just treating symptoms, and we emphasize patient education so you understand your condition and how to prevent recurrence.

Treatment Questions

What happens during my first visit?

Your first visit includes a comprehensive physical examination to identify exactly what you’re dealing with, followed by a discussion of our findings and recommendations. We’ll begin treatment that same day, which may include adjustments, soft tissue work, and other therapies depending on your needs. You’ll also receive guidance on home care to support your recovery between sessions.

How long does a typical appointment last?

At Black Diamond Chiropractic, we dedicate 30 minutes to each patient visit. This allows Dr. Higgins to provide comprehensive care using multiple techniques rather than just quick adjustments.

How many sessions will I need?

Treatment plans are highly individualized based on your specific condition, its severity, and how long you’ve been experiencing symptoms. Most patients begin to see noticeable improvements within the first week or two, with most complaints being resolved within 6-8 weeks. During your initial visit, Dr. Higgins will provide you with a recommended treatment plan including an estimated timeline.

Is treatment painful?

Many patients describe our treatments as “uncomfortable, but also feels good at the same time.” Some techniques like muscle scraping or deep tissue work may cause temporary discomfort during the session, but this sensation is typically followed by significant relief. Dr. Higgins always works within your comfort level and adjusts techniques as needed.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No, chiropractors are primary care providers for musculoskeletal conditions, so you do not need a referral to schedule an appointment. You can contact us directly to book your initial consultation.
